Rossman’s Fixative
Formula
Material | Amount | |
---|---|---|
Picric acid, sat. ethanolic | 900 | mL |
Formalin, concentrated | 100 | mL |
Description
Rossman’s fluid is similar to Gendre’s fluid, which itself is often thought of as an alcoholic Bouin’s fluid. Fixatives containing ethanol and picric acid are often recommended for carbohydrates, particularly glycogen, as both chemicals enhance the preservation of glycogen either by trapping it within precipitated protein or by precipitation directly.
Safety Note
Prior to handling any chemical, consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for proper handling and safety precautions.
