Champy’s Fluid

Chromium trioxide | 1 | g |
Potassium dichromate | 3 | g |
Osmium tetroxide | 1 | g |
Distilled water | 250 | mL |
Dissolve the chromium trioxide and the potassium dichromate in 150 mL of the distilled water. Dissolve the osmium tetroxide in the remaining 100 mL of distilled water. When both are dissolved, combine the solutions.
Description
The solution is stable for some time. It is suitable for use when cytological preservation is the main interest. Pieces must be fairly small, preferably 1-2 mm thick and never more than 3 mm.
Time
Pieces less than 2 millimetres should be fixed within 24 hours.
Aftertreatment
Wash in running tap water overnight to remove chromium and osmium compounds.
