White Glue Section Adhesive

White Glue Section Adhesive

White glue is the easily available wood glue used in carpentry. It is opaque, white, and has the consistency of cream or honey. It is made predominantly of polyvinyl acetate in a watery emulsion.

Since this is a product made for use in non-laboratory environments, it should be expected that it may not meet the standards of purity normally expected of laboratory reagents. In practice, this means that an unsatisfactory sample should simply be discarded and another purchased with a different batch number. This may be necessary as some samples have included bacteria, which could be seen in the finished section. Keep in mind that it is manufactured as a wood glue, not as a section adhesive.

To use, simply smear a very small amount of the glue over a clean, grease free slide. This may be easier if the glue is diluted with a little water first. The section may then be picked up from the water bath. If the glue is visible in the stained section, then too much has been applied.

Safety Note

Prior to handling any chemical, consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for proper handling and safety precautions.
