Description

Benzo scarlet 4BNS is a direct cotton dye. Many dyes of that type are capable of hydrogen bonding to amyloid. Only a few are capable of doing so and also giving a dark enough red color and the green birefringence necessary for them to be useful in diagnostic histology.

The dye is reportedly as effective as Congo red and Sirius red F3B, giving a distinctly darker red than Congo red.

The name Amyloid red is used by a particular sales company for marketing purposes.

Compare this dye to other direct cotton dyes for amyloid.
