Heidenhain’s
Vanadium Hematoxylin

Ingredient	Amount	Function
Stock A
Hematoxylin	0.5 g	Dye
Distilled water	100 mL	Solvent
Stock B
Ammonium vanadate	0.25 g	Mordant
Distilled water	100 mL	Solvent
Working solution
Stock A	60 mL	Dye
Stock B	30 mL	Mordant

 

Compounding procedure
Make each stock solution seperately.
Combine in the specified proportions.

Method

1. Bring sections to water with xylene and ethanol.
2. Place into the staining solution for an appropriate time.
3. Rinse well with water.
4. Dehydrate with ethanol, clear with xylene and mount with a resinous medium.
