This dye was recommended by Lendrum as a suitable yellow dye for the yellowsolve II method for cellular inclusions. The yellowsolve II is derived from Lendrum's phloxine-tartrazine method for inclusions, and coomassie fast yellow was suggested as a replacement for the tartrazine in conjunction with lissamine rhodamine B.
